2026 – 2027 Attendance Update
Garfield Online School’s weekly attendance questions for the 2026–2027 school year have shifted to an academic focus in response to Senate Bill 58 – Public School Attendance Amendments. We are excited about this change and look forward to seeing and hearing about all the great things your student is learning throughout the year.
We hope this update makes things easier for you, as you can submit work your student is already completing each week. The attendance question will also be the same for every student, regardless of grade level. Work submitted for attendance may still be included in your student’s quarterly portfolio (if chosen) for full credit.
If you have any questions or need assistance uploading picture files, text, or video into Canvas, please don’t hesitate to reach out to your student’s grade-level teacher. They are happy to help support you through the process.

What is the attendance policy?
Weekly Homeroom Attendance questions open every Monday at 12:00 am and close Fridays at 11:59 pm. If you know your student is going to miss an attendance question, please reach out to their teacher in advance to be excused.
If your student has an academic meeting with their Garfield Online teacher during the week, your student will be marked present for the week.
If your student misses the weekly question, you will receive an email from the Garfield Online Secretary (gosecretary@garfk12.org).
Missed attendance questions need to be excused by contacting your teacher or the secretary within ONE WEEK (Friday) of the due date.
If your student misses three consecutive weeks of attendance, you will receive an email from the Garfield Online Secretary requiring action. If no response is given by that Friday, your student will be 10-day dropped, according to Utah Administrative Rule (R277-419-5).
If your student has been 10-day dropped and you wish to re-enroll, a phone conference with a Garfield Online administrator is required. Please contact the Garfield Online Secretary at gosecretary@garfk12.org to schedule the conference with the administrator. Additionally, you will need to sign an agreement on the Garfield Online Re-enrollment Policy. This process ensures that all families have a clear understanding of the expectations and guidelines as they continue their educational journey with Garfield Online.
